| Summary: | History of the Investigation: The research covered by this report was initiated under NSF Grant 24832, in October, 1963. Only preliminary phases of the planned investigation were completed at the termination of the 3-year contract period in October, 1965. Renewal of the contract at the expiration date was refused by NSF. The contract funds were exhausted by the end of 1965. The project is currently operating for the first half of 1966 on funds obtained under an emergency grant in aid of research from the U. S. Weather Bureau. This report covers initial results and the current status of the research project as of May 1966, thus including part of the period supported by Weather Bureau funds, as well as the complete contract period of NSF G24832. The purpose of this extension of the report coverage beyond the initial contract period is to permit a reasonably complete presentation of the results of the preliminary phases of the investigation. Throughout the entire period of this investigation to date, the general supervision of the research has been under the direction of Dr. Willett. In planning the program Dr. Willett has been ably assisted by doctoral candidate Nathan E. Clark, who has devised and programmed most of the statistical and analytical procedures. |
