Description
Summary:A visionary artist who achieved worldwide fame, Julius Shulman transformed architectural photography. From his earliest photographs, his work demonstrated a profound sensitivity to and appreciation for the spaces in which people live. These spaces, as seen through his lens, are at once luminous and shadowed, intriguing and beautiful, places into which the viewer longs to enter. This volume focuses on Shulman's work in and around Chicago. The modernist architecture of America's First City of Architecture was in many ways the ideal subject for Shulman. Featured here are the elegantly modern Minsk House, designed by Keck and Keck in 1955; the 1960 house architect Burton Frank designed for himself, a mid-century modern gem; and architect Harry Weese's inspired house and studio of 1957, among other classic modernist masterpieces long overdue for rediscovery.
