| Summary: | Pineapple is a horticultural crop that contribute to have higher returns. Pineapple also is one of industrial crop that is progressively grew in Malaysia and cultivate mostly in peat soil. In Malaysia, pineapple makes up 25. I million metric tonnes which is the second highest tropical fruit production after mango. A case study was carried out in Pontian , Johor, which seeks to identify demographic factors on management practices in the production of pineapple farm management and identify demographic factors that influence the production of pineapple. The study was conducted at Pontian, Johor with 121 farmers involved in this survey by distribution of questionnaires. Information of pineapple farmers were been taken from Lembaga Perindustrian Nanas Malaysia, Pontian, Johor. Majority of the smallholders are already old and about in the age of 50 years and above. Mostly old people were involved in pineapple farming compared to young people. Old farmers that involved in pineapple farming had more experienced to manage the farm so that they get higher production of pineapple. Higher experience farmers mostly were more than IS years. Even though majority of old farmers did not get higher education level, they still can gain higher production of pineapple by their experience. Size of farm also contribute to the production of pineapple. Bigger size of farm resulted higher pineapple production. Most farmers has more than 7 acre of farm which contribute them to get higher pineapple production. |
