| Summary: | The uses of learning materials and learning styles are among the domineering factors
in shaping the students’ best achievements in examinations. This research was carried
out with the purpose to find out the types of learning materials and learning styles
used among the non - Malay students. 60 non-Malay form four students, taken from
two schools in the Lipis District, Pahang were selected to be the samples. The
information was gathered through questionnaires and interviews. A few methods have
been selected to analyze the data. The methods used are frequency statistics,
percentage, correlation, and one way ANOVA. The findings of this research shows
that, there is a significant relation between the frequent uses of Bahasa Melayu
reading materials, academic and non-academic magazines and also the frequent
reading of additional reading materials related to Bahasa Melayu subject, towards the
increasing of achievement for Bahasa Melayu subject in their previous form four
examination. The research also shows that the excellent students (75% and above)
were the frequently readers of additional reading materials related to BM subject
compared to the students who were failures in Bahasa Melayu subject. Other than
that, there is also a significant relation with their PMRs’ results for grade A min is
3.6154, the min for grade B is 2.9500, grade C min is 2.38889 and 1.7778 for grade
D/E. The research also found that there is a close significant between the frequency of
doing Bahasa Melayu exercises at home with the students’ achievement in that
particular examination. 16.7 % students who got Grade A, frequently made a lot of
Bahasa Melayu exercises compared to the Grade F students. This dissertation also
contains First Chapter, in which previous studies, problem statement research aims,
conceptual framework, questionnaire, research limitation, term definition, relevance
of studies and conclusion, are concluded. While Chapter Two is on literature review,
learning theories, learning styles and previous related studies. Chapter Three discusses
on the research methodology in which the research design, data gathering methods
and analysis procedure are presented. The findings and its discussion is being
described in Chapter 4, while Chapter 5, it contains summarizations and suggestions.
It is hoped that this research could be made as reference by parents, teachers, school,
district or state authorities, and also the Ministry of Education itself, in planning a
better quality teaching and learning methods, especially for the non-Malay students in
mastering the Bahasa Melayu subject. |
