Description
Summary:This paper is a part of the findings of a research funded by the Research Management Center of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The study was conducted at three main indsutrial areas in the booming district of Batu Pahat involving the industrial areas of Parit Raja, Seri Gading and Tongkang Pecah. It is hoped that the findings of this research can benefit curriculum designers especially those involved in technical education department. It is also hoped that, the findings could be of benefit to higher learning educational institutions in Malaysia when constructing organizational development programmes towards meeting the needs of factory managements. A total of eighteen human resource managers from the three research areas were selected as respondents and data collected were analyzed using statistical means. The findings showed that most of the curriculum currently used in technical institutions of higher learning in Malaysia meets the needs of these factory managements. Nevertheless, there are several aspects in the curriculum that need to be revised. Hopefully with a more comprehensive and specialized curriculum the process of producing more competent human resource in the globalized labor market could be enhanced.
