Description
Summary:Nowadays, electricity becomes one of the most important necessities for industrialization increasing living standard of people around the world. Power electronic devices find tremendous applications in industry as well as in domestic appliances. The excessive use of these devices causes major problems in the power system due to generate the harmonics. These harmonics pollute the power system and produce many adverse effect like malfunction of sensitive equipment, reduced power factor, overloading of capacitor, flickering lights, overheated equipments, reduced system capacity etc. One of the methods to mitigate harmonics is by using passive filter. The passive filter concept uses passive components such as capacitors, inductors and resistors which cancel the harmonic components from the nonlinear loads. Passive filter helps the system to improve the power quality and improve reactive power problem. Moreover, it reduces the need of capacitor for supplying extra needed Kvar. This project presents the optimal design of single tuned passive filter that its application is to mitigate harmonics in power frequency. The optimal parameter of this filter was calculated by using LAGRANGE interpolation method. The results were obtained by Matlab/simulation which shows the effectiveness of this filter.
