Description
Summary:Recent development in the construction industry in this country shows an increasing number of contractors obtained certification of ISO 9000 quality management system (QMS). However, this progress is seemed to be a drastic response from the constant reminder and pressure from the Ministry of Works [1] and quality awareness and Do It Yourself (DIY) programs organized by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) [2]. The pressure also comes from the process of economic globalisation. Experience learned from other countries such as United Kingdom and Singapore revealed that such kind of implementation of QMS was very encouraging at the initial stage but over time gave burdensome to all parties involved if the right approaches were not introduced subsequently. To avoid this problem a model that shows the most expedient and effective way the concept of QMS can be practiced in the construction projects that is tailored to the Malaysian construction industry’s environment is called for. The model will show to the construction team the right steps in setting up QMS in a construction project specifically during the construction phase.
