| Summary: | Cold-formed steel section has been widely used in Malaysia especially for the construction of roof truss system as an alternative to timber truss. The use of timber is no longer popular recently due to the increase in cost, not environmental friendly, prone to termite attack, and lesser strength to weight ratio as compared to steel. This paper describes experimental test results of the proposed cold-formed steel sections for the use in roof truss system. The tests were performed to meet the requirements that have been outlined by Public Works Department, Malaysia and were compared to BS 5950: Part 5. It was concluded from the study that the experimental results showed good agreement with the formulation given in BS 5950: Part 5. Hence the proposed cold-formed steel sections and the connections are suitable to be used as an alternative solution for the roof truss system. |
