Summary:Air conditioning is the highest auxiliary load on a vehicle with the highest load comes from the belt-driven compressor. This paper presents an electric compressor fitted into passenger vehicle air conditioning system with variable speed electric compressor' The compressor speed is controlled by a fuzzy logic controller depending on the internal heat load inside the passenger cabin. The fuel consumption, coefficient of performance and cooling capacity is presented in the paper. 2O% of fuel savings is obtained with the expense of lower cooling capacity.
